(22/03/11) Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes driver, and 2009 Formula One World Champion, Jenson Button drives Mclaren's World Championship winning car (the MP4-23) around the Mt. Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, Australia. Joining him in driving the MP4-23 was Australian V8 Supercar legend and 5 time Bathurst 1000 winner, Craig Lowndes, who was having his first drive of a Formula One Car. Lowndes holds the official fastest lap recorded around the daunting Bathurst circuit, at a 2:06.8 in his Holden V8 Supercar in 2010, however this record was obliterated after Button's run in the MP4-23. Button's fastest lap time was 'unofficially' recorded at a 1:48.3, but some reports say 1:48.5 Lowndes managed a 1:49.4 within the limited laps allowed. The MP4-23 was severly under-geared for the circuit, only managing approximately 300km/h top speed, and the floor plank bottomed out many times during the run. That said, the car was still incredible around Bathurst even when the drivers were'nt pushing. Suggestions by others say a high 1:30 could be possible.
